Touchdown - by Matt
Alright we've made it. Now in our motel room near Yorktown, wide awake at 5.30 because i'm so excited. We got off alright in the end from London after the engineers had fixed the windscreen of the 747. There is nothing like a bit of gaffer tape to sort out any technical issues, what can't that stuff fix? Not sure if the airline really wanted us to know the truth but as they were having to stick the window down in front of everyone staring out of the departure lounge so I think honesty was the best policy.
Well after they had brought round the second glass of wine to settle the nerves we were ready to depart. Good flight all round really and we were both so excited. Unfortunately it looked like the Americans were getting their own back on UK immigration by giving us all the 'Welcome to Heathrow Experience' of queueing for an hour or so. Oh well we finally got through and thankfully the bikes, bob and bags also made it so we grabbed a $5 trolley (whats that about) and went off to find the hire car.
'Oh sorry for the delay madame but the Prius you've pre-booked is not yet available', oh yes that's what I want to hear, tell me more. 'Well lets see what we can do', oh yeah you see, come on lady tell me the word I want to hear..wait for it...oh yes....yes...;Upgrade?' Bang - First home run of the trip! Yes that massive Chevy will do just fine, no need to put the seats down now the bike boxes will just slide right in.
So our hire car turned out just great and we cruised down to Virgina, after battling the NYC traffic jams and endless roadworks we finally made it down to Yorktown Motor Lodge after 7.5 hours of driving. We just crashed out after dropping the hire car off and getting a taxi back to the motel. Looking forward to a refreshing wake up dip in the pool and seriously loading up at breakfast (this is where we get our monies worth) the price of fuel just keeps going up, well it does when you travel with me, yummy.
